A Vedic Perspective on Letting Go, Truth & Returning to Your Roots
On 29 June 2026, we welcome the Full Moon in Sagittarius, but from a Vedic astrology perspective, this isn’t simply a Full Moon about adventure, expansion or optimism.
This Full Moon takes place in Mula Nakshatra—one of the most powerful and transformative lunar mansions in Vedic astrology.
While Western astrology often focuses on Sagittarius as the sign of truth-seeking, freedom and higher wisdom, Vedic astrology goes several layers deeper by observing which Nakshatra (lunar mansion) the Moon occupies.
And Mula changes everything.

What is the Strawberry Moon?
The name Strawberry Moon does not come from astrology.
It originates from Native American traditions, where June’s Full Moon marked the short season for harvesting wild strawberries.
In Europe, this Full Moon has also been known as the Rose Moon or Honey Moon, celebrating abundance, fertility and the richness of early summer.
Spiritually, however, every Full Moon carries its own energetic signature depending on where the Moon is located in the sky.
In Vedic astrology, that signature comes primarily from the Nakshatra.
The Full Moon in Mula Nakshatra
Mula Nakshatra is ruled by Ketu, the South Node of the Moon.
Ketu represents:
- Karma
- Spiritual liberation
- Detachment
- Past lives
- Inner wisdom
- Letting go of illusion
The symbol of Mula is roots tied together.
Its name literally means:
The Root.
Instead of decorating the branches of your life…
Mula invites you to examine what lies beneath them.

The Goddess Behind Mula
The deity connected to Mula is Nirriti.
She is often misunderstood because she represents endings, destruction and dissolution.
But destruction is not punishment.
It is sacred clearing.
Think about nature.
A forest fire clears dead wood.
Autumn allows leaves to fall.
A snake sheds its skin.
Without endings…
There can be no new beginning.
Why This Full Moon Can Feel Intense
Full Moons naturally illuminate emotions.
When the Moon shines through Mula, hidden truths often surface.
You may notice:
- emotions you’ve been avoiding
- relationships no longer aligned
- beliefs that no longer feel true
- work that drains your energy
- habits that keep repeating
This isn’t happening to punish you.
It is showing you where your soul is asking for greater honesty.
Sometimes the greatest healing begins with the courage to admit:
“This no longer belongs to me.”
Sagittarius Through the Vedic Lens
Western astrology often describes Sagittarius as:
- adventure
- travel
- optimism
- philosophy
- freedom
These themes certainly exist.
But Vedic astrology asks another question:
How is Sagittarius expressing itself today?
Because every Nakshatra colours the sign differently.
Mula is not the carefree explorer.
Mula is the seeker willing to lose everything false in order to discover what is real.
This is the difference.
Western astrology often speaks about the sign.
Vedic astrology speaks about the soul’s evolutionary lesson through the Nakshatra.
Western Astrology vs Vedic Astrology
| Western Astrology | Vedic Astrology |
|---|---|
| Focuses mainly on zodiac signs | Focuses strongly on Nakshatras (27 lunar mansions) |
| Usually uses the Tropical Zodiac | Uses the Sidereal Zodiac |
| Looks at personality development | Looks at karma and soul evolution |
| Sagittarius = exploration | Sagittarius through Mula = uprooting illusion to discover truth |
| Psychological emphasis | Spiritual and karmic emphasis |
Neither system is better.
They simply answer different questions.
Western astrology often asks:
Who are you becoming?
Vedic astrology asks:
What is your soul remembering?
Your Vedic birth chart might be different than your Western birth chart. For me it made sense that I feel more aligned to my Vedic birth chart. It is related to the actual placements of the planets and stars (nakshatra’s). Before time was introduced.
Questions to Reflect Upon
During this Full Moon, ask yourself:
- What truth have I been avoiding?
- What no longer feels aligned?
- Which old identity am I ready to release?
- What fear keeps me attached to the familiar?
- What wants to return to its natural essence?
Mula teaches that sometimes growth begins not by adding more…
but by removing what never truly belonged.
Ritual for the Full Moon
This Full Moon isn’t about manifestation.
It is about liberation.
A simple ritual:
- Sit quietly under the moonlight or light a candle.
- Write down everything you are ready to release.
- Notice where these patterns live in your body.
- Practice gentle yin yoga, breathwork or meditation.
- Burn or safely tear the paper as a symbol of surrender.
- End with gratitude for everything that brought you to this moment.
- The Full Moon Rite of the Womb ritual I created for you.
Allow yourself to trust that every ending creates space for something more authentic.

Working with the Body
As a fascia and embodiment teacher, I’ve noticed that emotional release rarely happens only in the mind.
Our bodies often store old stories long after our minds understand them.
This Full Moon is a beautiful invitation to soften.
To breathe.
Release tension held in the hips, jaw, diaphragm and pelvic floor.
And to let your nervous system know that it is safe to let go.
Sometimes healing isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about remembering who you were before fear asked you to become someone else.
Final Thoughts
The Strawberry Moon reminds us of nature’s abundance.
Mula reminds us that abundance begins with healthy roots.
This Full Moon may not feel comfortable.
But it can be profoundly freeing.
Because every illusion that falls away brings you closer to your essence.
Every attachment released creates space for deeper peace.
And every ending opens the door to a more authentic beginning.
May this Full Moon guide you gently back to your roots.
