7 ways to practice self-love & nourishing yourself

Self-love is about going deeply inwards and loving yourself just the way you are. It has to do with self-esteem, in other words: do you believe you are good the way you are? What thoughts do you have about yourself? Can you say that you love yourself and therefore take good care of yourself? In this blog, I will share some activities you can do to practice self-love and nourish yourself.

7 ways to practice self-love

1. Meditation

Meditation is a beautiful tool to learn and feel what your intuition is sharing with you. Observing your thoughts without judgement. Connecting with your own breathing rhythm. Feeling what your body is telling you. What do you feel underneath the tightness of your body? And what does your heart telling you? What do you feel when you breathe deep into the pelvis. Just being with you as you are without judgement. It is all about feeling deeply inwards and respecting your inner voice.

2. Nature walks

Walking in nature supports to reduce the stress level and reconnect ourselves with nature. In the forrest the trees root ourselves deeply in ourselves. At sea the waves show how our thoughts are coming and going. We are just like nature. When you walk in nature, take the time to fully be there. Observe the elements of nature. Plants, trees, dunes, sea. Whatever comes. Perceive it with all your senses.

3. Cold dips in natural water

The benefits of cold dips in natural water are huge. It improves the blood circulation in the body. Boosts your immune system. Supports you to be fully aware of your body and breath. When we are able to control our breath in the fight flight modus, we are able to embrace the cold of nature and all her benefits. In this practice it is fully about respecting your body, feeling what arises and reflect on that. In my experience it is like a mirror of our inner world. Maybe you feel like running. But when you are able to control your breath & mind, you will train your sense of calmness in daily life too. Be nice to yourself. Take time to train it and listen carefully to your body.

4. Light up candles in your house

Make your house nice and comfy. Light up candles in your house. Create a warm, nourishing space for yourself. Take time to fully be there. Read books. Stare out of your window and do simply nothing else than being. Practice self-love with passion and lights.

5. Surround yourself with people who give you energy

Take some time to reflect on the people who you surround yourself with. Do they give you energy? You’re an average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Do they accept and support you to be the best version of yourself. Do they give you space to develop yourself and go after your dreams? Life is always changing and ever flowing. The ones we got energy from in the past can change. The ones we spend the most time with can change. We as humans change when we grow and flow in different directions. So do the people around us.

Letting go of some people makes space to receive new ones in your life. It’s never said you will not meet the ones you let go in the past. But what is it that you really want to embody right now? This question will give you an insight on which people you will surround yourself with. Be open. Let go. Receive and go on. Life isn’t static.

6. Reflect by Journaling

Journaling is a beautiful way to reflect on yourself. Write freely from your heart and soul. What is your heart whispering? What is your mind sharing? Which dreams do you have? Be as open as you could be. Don’t keep yourself small. Give space to all your desires. You will see that once you write down or speak out loud your dreams, they start to grow. You can order my dream journal on Amazon to write down all your desires and dreams.

7. Mirror work and mantra’s

Look at yourself in the mirror daily and start talking to yourself with positive mantra’s. You will see that it changes the beliefs you have about yourself positively. A few mantras you can try are:

  • I am beautiful as I am right now;
  • I love myself for who I am ;
  • I am grateful for my body and how it serves me;
  • I feel loved and carried by my body;
  • Look in your eyes and see how beautiful they are;
  • Touch yourself in front of the mirror to practice a deeper connection with your body.
